Worked for a well known online gaming company and it gets brought up all the time and gives you experience in every sphere, including security/regulatory/large scale transactional systems....

My first post....i've contracted for a online betting/gaming company on and off for four years as a QA Test analyst. It has not reflected badly on my CV what so ever.... the total opposite if anything as during a few interviews potential clients comment on it.

unfortunately not been able to get my foot in the door with regards to investment banking, retail banking or trading systems, but know of lots of people who have.

I used to live in Antigua.

There are 365 beaches, one for every day of the year, so they say.

There are actually only about 100 I think.

Even so, there's a lot of nice beaches, and good weather pretty much all year round. Except for hurricanes, but unless you live in a shack they are unlikely to bother you too much.

Property prices are horrible though.

There's sod all to do in Antigua except drink. When I was out there (2000/2001) they didn't even have a cinema on the island. There are plenty of bars (Putters and Lashings being my favourites). The only decent restaurants are in English Harbour, which is a problem as all the work is in St Johns, almost as far away as you can get. St Johns also has open sewers which get rather smelly when during the wet season is pisses with rain for about 15 minutes so much that they overflow (it rains so hard it hurts) and then the sun comes out and bakes it hard.

It's OK to go on holiday to one of those all inclusive resorts, but there's a reason why no-one ever leaves them - though Shirley Heights is an OK excursion on a weekend.

The people are great though. Very friendly. And if you're into Columbian marching powder, you'll find it everywhere. You can even buy it off the police (allegedly).

God damn it. I was offered an interview for an Antiguan based greenfield gambling co about 6 years ago. Personal circumstances meant I couldn't follow it up but it sounded like an excellent opportunity for someone.

The pimp did tell me there wasn't much to do outside work and that my social life would have centred around the bar and beach...

Worked for Gala Coral Group in nottingham - mainly on a Bingo system, but also some Casino Egaming. Great place to work - spent several hours being paid to go onto gaming sites, and technology was up-to-date Nobody has every looked bad on the CV. I suppose I may not get a gig at a morman company

I worked for a gambling company based in Antigua. One of the best jobs ever in terms of experience. Did everything from software development to unpacking new servers and installing them. Learnt a whole bucketload about network security and writing clean, secure code that was extremely efficient (the half hour before the Superbowl is the most insane thing I've ever seen from a server room).

8 years on, and it still gets brought up in interviews. The all round skillset involved impresses people a lot.

Go work for William Hill in Wigan.

I understand they have a lovely lady TM there who knows nothing about testing and is just concerned with metrics ie how many tests have you run in the last hour and why is the number so low!

William Hill are in Leeds, Tote are in Wigan.

I worked for Tote and really enjoyed it there. The lovely ladies worked in I.T. Support and on the raceroom phones.

You're probably thinking of William Hill rather than Tote. Although Tote does have a pretty high turnover of I.T. staff.

Working in the background away from the casino itself shouldn't be a problem. I wonder if their content filtering blocks all other gambling sites other than their own.

When they discover the trap door that lets you win you could be in trouble though.

Unfortunately I am only looking for contract roles. Also, my development skills are somewhat restricted to academic knowledge and simple bug fixing. I guess I'll keep an eye open for opportunities as well.
