    opted in or out?
    Out: Whatever you agreed in your contract.
    In: 8 weeks from end or 12 weeks from start depending which is longest (need to check that doesnt sound right somehow).

    3-6 months isn't at all unusual to see in a contract. It all depends if you agree to the clause or get it removed from the contract in the first place.

    The client may well have a clause in their contract with the agency too so going direct isn't always as simple as it would seem. For that matter the client may not want to cut out the agency and will in all probability have payment terms different from the agency too.
