    Hi everyone,

thanks for your thoughts and sorry for not getting back here quicker - things have been very hetic at this stage.
For those you might be interested in a 6 month contract around the Cannes on the rivieria please do contact me - I know I can't use PM here at the moment. Not sure if admins will let me do this but I'll try : contactmehere999 at gmail dot com.

Essentially I'm looking for java based technologies and experience - however graduates would be considered as well. email me for more info.

Regarding remote working - I am still considering it if I cannot find the right people for this. However I've worked on a project like that in the past and its more difficult to coordinate things, and to be honest I've personally found it more social/fun to be working with people in the same office, as sitting at home for 6 months can be a bit odd after a while - it suites some people but not everyone. However I really want to use Agile/XP methodology to develop this and you really need to be in the same room for that.

thanks everyone . I'll put an ad on jobserve as well, and see what kind of responses I get.

I don't know about you , but I nearly have always had a bad taste in my mouth when dealing with agencies (there a some ok ones to be fair). I'd rather not go through any agencies - any suggestions how I can find people such as yourself? I presume I can't put posting on here or other dev forum sites as its against the rule (though I can't find any).
So any ideas how I can go about find some talented motivated bods who want to move to the sun?
i could be interested if you're after PMs. not sure how you would contact me tho as you cant PM...

why dont you simply advertise on jobserve yourself? and may I suggest that hiring a member of this board may be a big mistake

One fellow coder said to me he once had a job working from home, and they felt so shut in that they found themselves going out every evening to get away from it all.

What's your view on it, out of interest?
Most of my work, whether in the office or from home, is essentially remote. Often, I'm the only person in the client office - supporting and developing for client staff around the world. With the right collaborative tools, it isn't an issue.

If the major component of your social life is work related, then you'd have problems, I think, working like this. But if you have a rich social life outside of work (not just CUK!). then it isn't a bother.

I think if you want top-flight developers, you'll need to be flexible. Maybe a mix of presumably French speakers located near your office, combined with remote workers. If I was offered a position in the South of France, I'd be concerned about what would happen if it didn't work out (especially if your a small company). So initial remote working circumvents that problem.

Personally, I wouldn't take on employees - I'd use contractors. Much easier to get rid of if you don't like them!

I like the way Ars Digita worked - until the VCs got involved. http://waxy.org/random/arsdigita/

Working from home is entirely down to personal taste, I love it and am more productive and work longer hours when I can work from home. Some people are hopeless at it and need the discipline of being in an office.
Many managers can't cope with the concept that people can and do work from home effectively and can only manage "bums on seats".

You can put up jobs as long as you are known to be a non agent. The problem is how do Admin know!

If I did not have shared residence of the kids I would apply - but I know someone in the South of France who might well be interested - can you drop me an email?

Might be best to get a few more posts so you can receive PMs...
