Bit of a blur ( I blame the heat for how much beer I drank out there - that's my story and I'm sticking to it) but from memory the totty was superb

I was based in Richardson and lived in Addison. Went to Oasis FM show at Las Calinas! You adapt to the heat and cultivate the art of seamlessly moving from AC to AC (unless you are sitting by the pool admiring the totty of course! )

I would go back tomorrow if I had obtained my green card - now visas are an issue.

I'd be happy to just get the offer to work there. I think $110k would be ok, but never seen a move to the US as a realistic option due to the visa issues.

Oh, and hello. I'm new here.

I also wound up hating (Northern) California. But the US is a big place with a load of variety...

The weather is uncomfortable, so you move from your air-conditioned car to your air-conditioned office then back to your air-conditioned home. By staying inside you also avoid the insects.

Can't help you with the hurricanes...

An important factor in deciding where to live I agree.

I did a stint in California in Silicon Valley during the boom times. A great place to live.

If you can get out of the UK and emigrate, now is the time to do it. Your 2 bed semi here will translate to a 5 bed MacMansion out there.

And no Gordon Brown or New Labour.

July - Sept is very hot but everything is AC'd so it's OK, plus I'd rather have sunny hot weather than the tepid summers we get here. At least there you can plan a BBQ on the weekend and know it's not going to be a washout. Hurricanes really aren't such a big problem in Florida. Insects are no worse than the village I live in here, and the wildlife otherwise is far more interesting... snakes and crocs if you venture out to find them.

And plus the gentlemen's clubs are amazing.

I really hope I get the opportunity to go back there.

I would emigrate and take it. Not worth coming back to this country after living out there for any period of time, you will just realise how expensive and rubbish the UK is.

Just my impression of it, i.e. one of those places you just have to visit for the sake of it but really to me it was just like London and probably worse in some cases.

And another good thing about Florida is that it is a relatively new state, and hence there are a lot of American and foreign immigrants (the good type), so everyone is open to meeting new people.

I would definately go back there.
