do you know C++ or just J2EE?
any database systems experience? (Oracle, SQLServer,...)
any ETL?
Rates will depend on "side" skills as well as main ones.
I have lots of friends in investment banking and the rates are good - if you have the right skills, with 3 years experience doing derivatives etc then you're looking at £450 a day min and up to £750 for dev and/or test jobs
A look at jobserve will tell you which agencies handle the City jobs....
Yeah, a bit mixed I'm afraid, sometimes a bank takes on a load of contractors and then sacks em all. This is probably the reason the rates vary quite a bit, sometimes you can charge over £500, but lately I've seen one or two advertised at under £400.
You say 3 years banking, but what about before, that counts as well. How's your banking knowledge ? Is it exotics or simple stuff ?
Start at £500, but with only 3 years experience and no contracting under your belt you may end up nearer £400.
I've been working for 3 years now in banking and was interested to know what the contracting scene/current rates are like with other banks now. They scrapped most of our contracters a while back..
My experience has been mainly in developing FI derivs. pricing and trading systems using j2ee. Can anyone recommend good agencies for the City?
