I was contracting for around 2 years before being a permie and so I do know what the world is like.

What skill sets are hot ?

And guys/friends I logged in to get some sincere advice and not comments on my attitude or my shortcomings.

Dont you think this forum is all about people helping each other(at least advice) ?

Should I add reporting skills to be more marketable ? I would really appreciate people who are into Business Intelligence (Datawarehousing) to comment on.Please.

How is informatica contract market ? SSIS contract market.?

And fix the attitude or you're going nowhere. Right now you're bottom of the pile for work as someone with no contracting history, not to mention fairly average skills in a limited marketplace for a median salary. The big difference between what we do and what you do is nobody owes us anything, including help. So we tend to be a litle bit more self-reliant than the average permie. Go figure.

First time contractor, no previous form, £250/day is what you should be aiming, and only if you make yourself immediately available. So you have to quit your perm job first.

Agents don't usually bother with newbies unless they can be assured of a decent margin to offset the high risk of placing an unknown. Also make sure that you have 6 months living expenses as you could be on bench for some time as the market is tanking. Won't be eligible for UB40 either.

I have seen quite a lot who communicate well but are are zero at work.

You need not be BBC correspondent to be good at coding/development. If communication was a key why are jobs going to India ? Could you please explain my friend.

Ok back to business. Does any one know about nice opportunities. I can handle informatica/PL/SQL--SSIS/T-sql very well. 350 --400 per day ..6 month contract.
Relax Nigel. I don't mean to tell you a thing. Now go bake me a cake before I replace you with an Indian.

Going by the manner in which you communicate (with people whom you have asked to help you no less) I'd say you'd struggle to see £200 a day.
