Don't some domain reg companies allow you to backorder an expired domain name so you sort of get first dibs if it's not renewed. Not entirely sure how it works as I've never done it. I know Network Solutions allow you to do this.
On the Pipex note, my ISP is Nildram who are owned by Pipex and I've never had a problem. I bet now I've said that, all will go tango uniform and I'll be back here all a-wailing and knashing of teeth.

I may be a bit out of date but it used to be as follows:
After it expires you have 40 days to renew the domain (Nobody else can buy it at this time).
After the 40 days expire it goes into a redemption period for 75 days and costs a couple of hundred to renew it (can't remember if it is available to anybody or not in this period)
After these 75 days it is available for general purchase again at the standard rate.
Basically you are looking at about 4 months before you can get your hands on it once it expires, and during this time it can be snapped up again by the original registrant.

I've been after my surname with the .com and .co.uk on the end for years, both aren't really used, one is held by somebody with my surname, the other by a web hosting Co. I had a similar experience where I was trying to register a domain for my local football club. Why don't you phone an ISP and ask them? No need to alert the current owner, you don't even need to tell them what domain it is initially. Domain Name still not available
The domain name i want was up for renewal on the 11th Nov and still is showing as not available. How long is it likely i'm going to have to wait. I don't want to e-mail the person incase he triggers on and renews it for re-sale to me. It is my LTD co name so quite inportant i get hold of it.
Any suggestions advice from fellow web experts
