    Domain Name still not available

The domain name i want was up for renewal on the 11th Nov and still is showing as not available. How long is it likely i'm going to have to wait. I don't want to e-mail the person incase he triggers on and renews it for re-sale to me. It is my LTD co name so quite inportant i get hold of it.

Any suggestions advice from fellow web experts

Who are you using to search the domain ?

I've had domains expire and be available the next day.

I had a similar experience where I was trying to register a domain for my local football club. Some twat had registered the .com thinking he could extort a few quid out of the club, but let it expire when he realised there was no chance as we were happy to use the .co.uk in the meantime.

As soon as it was up for renewal I was able to snap it up though so not sure what's going on here. This was back in 1999/2000 so the rules may have changed since then. Why don't you phone an ISP and ask them? No need to alert the current owner, you don't even need to tell them what domain it is initially. Just say you want to register a domain that's listed as up for renewal on Whois.

i'm looking on 123 reg but have also looked on a couple of other standard domain registering companies. All say the same.

Anyone recommend a site to check or somewhere i can e-mail to ask the question ??

I've been after my surname with the .com and .co.uk on the end for years, both aren't really used, one is held by somebody with my surname, the other by a web hosting Co. I've counted down a time or 2 but they renew at the death each time. I'll do stuff all with it when I get it so I'm not that bothered.

I would just find an ISP with a phone number on their web site, call up and ask someone. You've got nothing to lose.

Never used 123-reg, but have found Easily ok when I used them a couple of years ago.

Spoke to someone at Easily who has told me that it is available to the public again after 60 days from it's expiry date.

Thanks for all your help i will try then.

123-reg is now one of the Pipex-owned group. As a consequence of that take-over they now have their own elite band of ex-customers who will slag them off at any available opportunity. You can learn why here:

or alternatively do a search for them on The Register and read the litany of woe there.

I'm a member of 123-reg's current customers who would be happy to slag them off now. I have also experienced the attrocious service provided by another Pipex owned outfit. If you see the word "Pipex" anywhere then stay clear.

I may be a bit out of date but it used to be as follows:

After it expires you have 40 days to renew the domain (Nobody else can buy it at this time).
After the 40 days expire it goes into a redemption period for 75 days and costs a couple of hundred to renew it (can't remember if it is available to anybody or not in this period)
After these 75 days it is available for general purchase again at the standard rate.

Basically you are looking at about 4 months before you can get your hands on it once it expires, and during this time it can be snapped up again by the original registrant.

I would suggest you just pick another domain.
