What's your normal daily rate for a three month contract? Take that figure, multiply by 30 ( i.e. twice your normal rate x 15 days ), and start negotiating.

I have recently been approached to do some paid, yes paid, development for an open standards organisation. Essentially they want a library that contains output from my parser generator at its core.

This organisation is backed by various companies and an American one appears to hold the purse strings. Some point soon, the question of "how much" is likely to be raised. I reckon I would have about 3 weeks' work.

Has anyone any experience(s) of doing work for this type of organisation? Should I be "reassuringly expensive" or "realistically cheap"? Are there any pitfuls dealing with an American company? Should I be offering any SLA for what will finish up being shareware? It is a long time since I did fixed price work so is there anything I should bear in mind?

Any advice would be gratefully received.
