    hey, i resemble that comment!

the big consultancies do occasionally post you overseas for several months and put you up in a fancy hotel, with a massive living allowance though. my last company (a big consultancy) did that and my effective take home increased by 60%, and the only thing i had to pay for was food.

At my current gig we they sometimes get Accenture in to do some of the software development. If the developers spent half as much time learning to code properly and half as much time learning how to make word documents look really flash we would be much better off.

The code is a steaming pile of horse manure, but by god do we have a lot of wizzy looking documentation. And thats what keeps senior management very happy.... and then when the applications fall over and we need to fix them, they wonder why it takes so long... we look like tulip, consultancy looks good.. its a funny ole world.
All about ass covering. I would love to own a big consultancy but only idiots work for one.

Get a piece of paper, put all offers across the top and divide the page in half: pro’s and cons.

Ie pro’s 12 month contract, close to home, baby in the way so time to see him/her.
Con £25 less than you have else where

At the end of this you should have a clearer picture of where you want to be. Oh and nothing signed nothing accepted.

    I hate big consultancies.

You don't always get a phone - you were lucky! When Oracle gave me a company mobile, my manager said "it's to make your job easier". I had to point out "No, it's to make your job easier."

All the best projects are through big consultancies - where else can you get to work in such exotic locations as Bracknell, Basingstoke, Hull or Slough?

Sounds like a consultancy role..so worst of both worlds...paid as a permi, but treated like a contractor.

i've never heard of the company that the guy who is chasing and trying to talk me round to him works for. that is worrying. the website is a holding page. they are supposed to be an IT services co that have been around for 15yrs or so under different names. they basically take people (contract or perm) and stick them in with clients. that worries me...
