SC Clearance Duration

That's not necessarily the case - I'm working on client site, being escorted, while I wait for my clearance to come through. So far, they only sent me the SC forms this week, so it looks like I'll be spending some time with my "buddy"! I guess it depends on skills - there are two of us here waiting for clearance to come through, but it's a reasonably niche skillset.

Thats a regular approach, and what we used to do (when i was a perm!). you get your BC, but can hang off a currectly cleared SC person.

Who is footing the cost? my old company wouldnt pay for contractors.

You won't get the interview, much less the job. The hirers aren't interested in guidelines, they will only take cleared people.

That's the theory. Reality is it will take a month or so. Unless you are working directly to an HMG sponsor, you will go to the back of the queue for contractors and that is at the back of the queue for permanent staff.

also not sure who pick up the cost, you or the client... its not very cheap.

my understanding is (coming from a perm to contract background too):

lasts for 10yrs
transfer with you to new upon completion of BC (again!) and the new company transferring it
if not working on a SC contract, ie you move from MoD to tescos, it expires after a year.

Should take about a week to renew it if it has lapsed if I remember correctly. Then again we do have a Nu Liemore government now......

Does anybody know how long SC Clearance lasts for?

I got it when I was permie and didn't actually use it until about 3 years later in a contract. I was told because I got it when permie, it would last for 10 years assuming my personal circumstances don't change (e.g. I get thrown in jail or something).

Speaking to agents they tell me it only last for a matter of months.

What do you guys know about this? I ask because I am considering going permie for about a year before I return to the contract market, and that permie job does not require SC Clearance.
