Is it worth worrying about the stipulated figure and the mention of public but not private? It doesn't really seem to fit the nature of the (remote) work.

Don't worry about it. They're putting a limit on how much they can sue you for negligence. It's up to you if you have PI insurance to cover that (it's £200 so just buy it).

what is this private insurance you speak of? Never heard of it.
