Don't bother with the email they will ignore it because it doesn't contain any legal standing as they can claim they haven't received it.

Just write a letter to the Data Registrar of THESKILLSMARKET send it by recorded delivery or fax, and state on it that under the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998 they are to stop processing your personal data and if they don't do so with in 21 days you will take further action against them.

    Address:
    Data Registrar
    THESKILLSMARKET LIMITED
    35 BRITANNIA ROW
    LONDON
    N1 8QH

    Registration Number: Z7573590

    1. If you then find an agency uploads your data to THESKILLSMARKET anytime after 21 days, and:
    a. They send you an email about your profile
    b. You find the data and it's incorrect
    OR
    2. you can still find your incorrect profile 21 days after you sent them the letter,

go straight to the information commissioner website and get THESKILLSMARKET investigated for breach of the DPA. http://www.ico.gov.uk/complaints/data_protection.aspx you will need to send the proof that you sent a letter (not email) requesting that THESKILLSMARKET shouldn't use your data anymore and there is no way they couldn't have received it. Plus other evidence of the breach i.e. print out of email, screenshots.

Once the Information Commissioner rules against THESKILLSMARKET you can take them to court for "distress and injury to feelings" plus money for the damage it has caused to your employment prospects due to the data being incorrect.

Most cases don't go that far - as soon as companies realise you are seriously going to get the Information Commissioner involved which could cause an (expensive) investigation into their practices and you could also sue them, they play ball.

Most investigations of the DPA are paper investigations but if lots of people start complaining about a company, or the breach is a serious breach i.e. the company hasn't registered to use the data in that way, the Information Commissioner does do a proper investigation.

This is the register of Data Registrars for further use against other companies:

A little bird tells me iProfiles are actually talking to contractors about what they want to see changed. So there may be a little hope.

Personally, every time I get a confirmation from an agency that I've been added, I go in via the link and delete it again. However, I genuinely have no idea how many variants are out there, nor can I find out. Impressive software...not.

    Thanks for replies

I had to request password as had never set up account! Phoned them up and very helpful. Found name of agency, who deleted my phone number from their records straight away. They were upset they had given other pimps my private line - encourages comptetion!

I updated my profile - so all ends well.

I am sure some reading this will think I should be tougher - but aren't we all allowed 1 mistake if we take every step to rectify?

Bob is right. "Less than responsive" is putting it very mildly. The agencies upload your CV (after first putting it through some sort of primitive key-word extraction tool, which means your profile bears no resemblance to what's in your CV) and the agencies control who has access. So if they don't give you access, you're bolloxed. I always delete them immediately, by not agreeing to the Ts & Cs.
Check this thread for a list of Iprofile agencies. Basically don't send your CV to any of these unless you can guarantee they won't upload it.
The PCG have been meeting Skillsmarket to get some of these issues resolved, but thanks to their reluctance to publish the event I only heard about it afterwards.
To be honest, it's probably just as well I didn't go, as I'd be very tempted to get violent.

You can't. The agency is the one who puts the data there, and when you first login you agree to a EULA that says you give them the right to do so. So once you have logged in, you have given the right to the agency to leave it there, meaning you then can't delete it.

These are the numpties that make it if you want to remove your details - http://www.theskillsmarket.com/index.asp - all the data is held centrally

However, they are less than responsive. You may have to threaten them with the DPA or other legislation to get them to sort it out. A common trick they like, allegedly, is to just disable your login so you can't see the data anymore but to leave that data intact for the agencies to carry on using.

started a topic need more details on iprofilecentral

    need more details on iprofilecentral

http://www.iprofilecentral.com/ - they have an email and a phone number - can anyone tell me to which address the web site is registered? Or any other details?

I found my CV was uploaded - including my personal mobile(as opposed to my pimp mobile). Which narrows it down to 2 agencies I thought I could trust. Clearly shows how stupid and niave I am. I am 43 years old - I really should know better. I hope iprofile will tell me which agency - but just in case I want more details so I can force the info out of them.

Working...
