My company has just successfully been granted a restricted license to allow us to convert one of our Tier 5 workers to a Tier 2 worker, giving her an additional 5 years in the country (tied to our job). She's a Canadian citizen and was here on a youth mobility visa.
First you have to become a sponsor, and pay about £500; then you need to apply for a license, and this involves a market labour test if it's not on the shortage list, then once that's granted, the rest is pretty easy.
I take my responsibilities as a sponsor extremely seriously, and so should you - there's a lot you have to do and and keep up on. You should have good HR procedures in place, proper contracts, etc so that you can demonstrate to the home office that you taking your responsibilities seriously.

Hey all, I know this is possible. If anyone has experience I'm interested in any links to the hoops one needs to jump to provide for a sponsorship visa, and any tax implications of doing so. E.g would a foreign agency search fee be tax deductible?
