In 1972-73 there was a sugar shortage in the UK but not in the Channel Islands. Holiday makers were bringing sugar back from Jersey which was fine on the ferry but not by air. At one time a Dan-Air propeller aircraft carried a full load of 60 passengers who thought it a good idea to bring two bags each of 4kg sugar as non weighed hand luggage. The extra 240kg resulted is a rather scary aborted take-off.
