    Profits at DFS have halved as weak consumer confidence and the summer heatwave frazzled the furniture retailer’s performance.

    The company’s pre-tax profits plunged 49pc to £25.8m for the year to July 28, as it grappled with an “exceptional downturn” during the fourth quarter.

    Shares in DFS fell more than 3pc to 201.5p in lunchtime trading.
