I was just quoting what every one else was saying was going to happen.

But surely it must be true? Immigrants are not going to slog right through Italy, Germany, France to come to the tuliphole which will be the UK after brexit surely?

In fact maybe we need to concentrate on not letting people out rather than not letting them in?

    Maybe?

We can make our own rules, but at the minute there are no plans to have any rules. No plans for anything apart from stockpiling food, which really installs confidence in the government and where we are heading.
I imagine we will still do a lot of checks.

Good thing about all those people trying to smuggle themselves into the Uk - they can now be shot.

Pretty sure very very soon people would stop trying to get to the UK if they got shot - but either way it works eh!

This isn't right. We must be told by those from continental Europe what we can and cannot do; just like CUK.

Doh! Did you pop over to Calais and look there?

So, to demonstrate that we have control over our borders we need to stop every vehicle entering the country to make sure it’s not full of illegal immigrants coming from the EU, etc.
Isn’t that what you wanted? Or are you now going for “we need free movement of goods into the UK”?
Do you think that as soon as we leave the EU that we'll be removing our border farce contingent from Calais? This is an agreement that the UK has with France because the French won't do their jobs properly, not an EU agreement.

I kind of agree with Cirrus - the food thing is overblown. I doubt there'll be a shortage of food but I do expect food to get more expensive (this is inline with most grocery experts analyses).
There shouldn't be any shortage of medicine, but meds from outside the UK will shoot up in price thus straining the NHS.
Brexit will be a slow-moving and prolonged death of the UK, hardly noticeable at first but with growth rates pegged at 1.5% for the forseeable future, we will simple become more and more irrelevant to the big players of the economy in the world to come: the US, China, India and the EU (if the countries of the EU are wise enough to stick together in the face of external threats and not fight among themselves).

There is no great trade future with other countries - we aren't Germany, we don't make enough stuff.
Our service industries which comprise 80% of the economy don't really translate into China or India, in the main.

And that is why I now want a hard Brexit.
The sooner these realities become obvious, the sooner we can leave the land of Narnia and La la land behind and make the inevitable, in the long-term, accomodation with our neighbours.

we will be required to apply the same checks on food from Belgium as we do on food from the USA.

Extrapolate this across every port and you’ve got supply routes being blocked in a very short time.

We currently have a fairly “light touch” on shipments coming in from the single market. Once we leave we will be a third country, and we will be required to apply the same checks on food from Belgium as we do on food from the USA.
Trucks bringing food into the country being checked at Dover are going to choke supply roads?

Sorry old bean but if you can stop foaming from the mouth for just five minutes and explain then I'd be most grateful.

Accredited suppliers and transporters will still receive a light touch. Food will not be rotting on the quayside.

Right on cue. Daily Mail. “War cry”.

Pathetic from a supposedly senior government minister. This is the reason why we have this division. Government and media acting together.
