Security Clearance Graduate Job

Hi Im new here,

I've been trying to find a similar problem as my situation but I cant find any. I've basically applied for a tier2 MoD contractor as a graduate. Basically they asked me to provide information about when we(my family) moved here (as i was a naturalised citizen) which was in 2008, and they ask further about my parents who got their citizenship in 2007(as well as permanent residence status).
I'm in a bit of a pickle because while I'm waiting for the security controller of the company to tell me whether I'm cleared to work for them or not, while there's another company offering me a position who wants my reply soon otherwise the offer may expire.
Basically, I have to decide soon whether to gamble and wait for the security clearance thing and reject the other company or accept the other company. Does anybody know how if I have a chance of being denied? I want to work for this company who requires my security clearance as I love the location and their projects but I'm slightly worried about the clearance.

I presume you've already received Basic Clearance (BC)?

Basically, it's unlikely you'll be denied, but basically it could take quite a while before the clearance comes through, though it has improved greatly over recent years. Basically, you should talk to the the agency you're working through, or the employer manager (if you can), or possibly the security controller, and tell them your concerns. They may be able to speed things up. (When I was waiting for clearance a few years ago, I called the HR Director, and spoke to his secretary. My clearance was through a couple of days later - could have been coincidence I suppose). Basically, after all this effort, they're not going to want to lose you to another contract. You could ask if you can work uncleared - I did that for three months at one site. It just meant be escorted around the more sensitive areas of the site, like the toilets.
