Try FreeAgent, especially made with the contractor in mind.

You can open a free 30 day trial account to test drive it.

Try www.ezacs.biz (it maybe .com) for free. This package was written by a colleague of mine and its ideal for contractors/contracting through Limited Company. The look/feel of the website is naff but the package works - because there are contractors using it.

The idea is to make the package free for those contractors willing to read/persevere with the instructions with the lazy option of paying to have someone at the end of a phone giving you the answers/hand holding etc.

Quickbooks is a dreadful bit of software. Sage isn't perfect by any means, but if you're going to spend money on an accounts package then that's pretty much the industry standard. I'd rather use a spreadsheet than QB and save the cash.

So did mine. Once I told him that I was going to dump QB and him with it he changed his mind and let me use the spreadsheet again.
