That has got to be the most inaccurate piece of advice I've seen on here. ant that is saying something.

Not up to date with current legislation and tax efficient setups...

As mentioned most work doesn't require a qualified accountant - hence doing it myself.

Buckle Barton, forgot about them in Horsforth. Will try them today thank you.
I will advice you to look for a freelance accountant which is much cheaper. They can charge you on pay as you go basis and no need to tie yourself up with any long term contract. You only contact him when you need and most of the time they advise you on the phone for free. Many of you IT contractors don't need these high street accountants as your affairs are pretty straight forward. You really need an accountant like your self who will understand you and help you achieve what you want from your business and your life not someone who will only have a transactional sales/purchase ledger relationship. I am a freelance accountant my self and most of my clients are locuum doctors who apart from assisting them with their accounts or tax issues have now also become my personal friends and this makes me understand their circumstances better. I will advice you to look for a freelance accountant.

    1. We deal with clients throughout the UK, they are always welcome to meet up with us face to face if they wish, but generally they find that this is not necessary.

    2. We do use trainee accountants, that is how we end with qualified accountants, but all trainees work is supervised by a qualified accountant.

    3. Most work does not require a qualified accountant, I doubt ANY accountancy practice will use qualified accountants for VAT returns etc. Think about if you need a flu jab, it does not require a doctor to do this, a practice nurse is able to do this, accountancy is no different.

    4. A third of our staff are qualified and a further third are at various stages of training.

I hope this assists with your understanding.

    Alan

Nope not yet. Thought someone on here would come up with a local recommendation.
For the moment I am going to do some DIY accounts when I find a bit more time I will call a few accountants.

So as a BUMP for this thread....

Still looking for a recommendation for an accountant in Leeds...
    Not looking for monthly accountant.
Just someone to help me set up, don't know if to go limited or sole trader.
Compile unaudited at the end of the year.
    Help with Tax affairs etc...
