Thanks for the info - I occasionally work from home, but mostly at the kitchen table, and the ironing board is in fact right behind me :-)

    Only if you work there......

If you do then you should contact his insurance co and tell them. Most won't increase the premium as IT work counts as 'clerical' to them.

As the others say, you won't get into trouble with the government. You can't stop him putting whatever address he wants on his forms. Am I my brother's keeper? as someone once said before bashing his head in.

You might get some fallout though if his company starts defaulting and then you want to get credit for yours. Credit assessment companies are pretty secretive about how they make their decisions, but if I was one I'd certainly be taking into account other companies with the same registered address and directors' surnames.

They will go after business assets, of which none are at your address I presume, and then they go after the directors personally, of which you are not a party to.
There's a bit of a difference between an accountant's office (which in itself is probably the accountant's business address) which will be the address of many unrelated ltd co's 'registered office' and, what is clearly a residential address with a registered office.

In effect, it means should the OP decide to change his registered office's address to his home, ie the same address as used by his brother, there is a like between the 2 companies however tenuous we may like to think it is.

How often do seemingly insignificant things like this come back and cause probslems?

TBH, I'd be pretty pissed off if one of my brothers registered his business at my home without my prior approval.

I only use a registered address to keep my home address off all the pimps and clients paperwork. It makes no odds where youre registered really, the authorities will find you anyway if they need to.

A registered address is supposed to have the name displayed but never heard of anyone actually checking. Failing to comply with requirements is your bro's problem not yours.

People do draw conclusions when company's addresses can be linked but doubt if yours have that sort of profile, more a problem with investment companies and the like.

And even if you was a company director you will only be limited to £1.00p per share, of which you have a total of 1 share...correct?

started a topic Ltd registered at my home address

Ltd registered at my home address

My brother, who lives abroad, has gone ahead and registered a limited co at my home address.

Apart from the occassional bit of junk mail and cold calling I now get, I'm a bit concerned about any potential pitfalls.

For example, if he defaults on any bills or fails to complete statutory returns for comp house, tax, what have you, are there any implications on my record as a director of my company - which we registered at my accountants address mainly because (as far as I know) that's the norm.

I am not expecting him to fall short on these requirements - but please what are your views on how quickly I should press for him to alter the registered office?
