    I think practically every contract I've had from an agency says "by signing this contract you are acknowledging that you are opted out" IIRC, and Sanderson plc even go as far as saying in big shouty letters that opting out is a REQUIREMENT

    I thought it was only at renewal, but maybe there is that caveat.

    looked it up and yes you can as long as its prior to work carried out or if you stop the work ie quit and the re-join

    What about prior to contract being signed?

    E.g. you email agent saying you will opt out, but then after interview done and contracts being drawn up you say you are opting in

    IIRC you can only opt back in at a renewal. Some of the contractual clauses would need to be changed if opted (back) in.

    ie if I opt out at application stage but then at contract stage say I wish to be opted in is this change valid?
