Giant refutes allegation re dispensation

Umbrella Supermarket has alleged that giant allows contractors to claim expenses when no expense has been incurred and that our expenses policy is in breach of HMRC guidelines.

The allegation has been made by Mr Peter Warren, the Executive Editor and director of Umbrella Supermarket, who was the founder and director of a competitor of giant, Orange Genie Limited. From searches of Companies House, Orange Genie Limited went into liquidation in 2006 owing £910,000 to HMRC (name changed to PT Administration Limited). According to the searches, Mr Peter Warren remains the largest shareholder (46%) of the new Orange Genie holding company, Genie Management Group Limited, as well as remaining a director of GenieContractor Limited.

The allegations made by Umbrella Supermarket against giant are untrue. Giant’s adherence to HMRC guidelines is reflected in all our processes, documentation and procedures including our employment contracts, expense policy, staff handbook, online portals and manual checking/authorisation of claims. HMRC have recently successfully concluded a detailed review of giant.

The matter is in the hands of our lawyers, Baker & McKenzie.

To come onto a forum as a company and protest innocence like this does rather smell somewhat fishy, especially when name dropping the competition.

Personally, if I was with giant, I would be looking to move to another brolly, or go limited.
