Thanks for the info. I am quite happy to pay for expert advice. And I thought I was with my current accountants, but some of their comments make me think their knowledge may be lacking. A UK based contract may have eased me into this limited company contracting more gradually... Anyone have a recommendation of Irish based accountants knowledgeable in this area? Thanks.

Although it sounds like you are lucky and are being engaged in the UK and paid in sterling, there are still issues in that you are physically working in the Republic or Ireland. In this instance you really should engage the services of not just a decent accountant in the UK (it sounds like you're having trouble), but also one in Ireland.
As far as I recall, although it could have changed by now, you would have to register for a PRSI exemption in ROI.

UK Ltd company; working in Ireland
I recently started working for the UK incorporated branch of an Irish company (through a UK agency, paid in GBP), and working in the Republic of Ireland. As everything happened quite quickly, and I haven't contracted through a limited company before, I decided to work with accountants who would setup everything and make sure that I was compliant with Irish employment law.
To cut a long story short, the accountants haven't really done anything and as I am nearing the end of my initial contract I am looking to switch to someone more reasonably priced that I have some faith in. They didn't understand the difference between out-of-pocket expenses and expenses billable to the client, so I don't believe they know what they are doing. I have just been paying myself the 2000 GBP per month that they recommended and the rest is sitting in the company bank account.
How difficult is the Irish part of my payroll? Do I even have an Irish tax or NI-equivalent liability (I fly Monday morning, back Thursday afternoon, Friday from home)? Any advice would be gratefully received. Thanks.Tags: None
