    Excuses to raise taxes

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/5251022.stm

Taxes on air travel and "gas guzzling" cars should be raised to cut greenhouse gas emissions, says a committee of MPs.
The MPs' report criticises the Department of Transport for adopting a "fatalistic" attitude towards cutting emissions caused by increased travel.

The report also calls for speed limits to be dramatically cut or rigorously enforced on motorways and trunk roads.

Transport Minister Stephen Ladyman said taxes on gas guzzlers had already been raised and could go up further.

I'm sorry, this is all just a ruse to put a plethora of stealth taxes in place to boost the massive waste on public services.

Apart from the obvious typo, somone at the BBC is a numpty (spot the odd ones out).

"Jaguar X type 2.0 petrol saloon auto
Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe 3.6 litre petrol
      Renault Espace 2 lite petrol
      BMW X5 4.8 litre petrol
Range Rover 4.4 V8 petrol auto"
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

This threw up all sorts of arguments in my mind.

A Merc S class has better MPG than most of the "green" cars even at 100 mph.
"Sorry officer, I was being kind to the environment".

The UK went for Catalytic converters as weapon of choice in the emmisions war even though leen burn is a better answer (due to car manufacturers lobby because they get after sales every 3 years on cats). Cats are useless most of the time in the UK as they struggle to get up to working temparature due to our climate. If the speed limit is reduced for economy of fuel use the working temp for the cat will never be achieved so producing more polution.

        So many more arguments.

It is "some bird flashing her pants" and it's from a painting by Ed Beardsley.

              ADD
              1 TO W-POST-COUNT
              END-ADD

I hate it when first letter is lowercased in vars, wtf happened with good old notation that clearly shows which type is any given variable, ie: iCounter for integer counter.
