By very nature humans are scared of the unknown, we like to have an answer for everything. Religion came from a time when things couldn't be explained. Now much of what they teach has been dis-proven, people still hang on to the religious beliefs.

50 years ago? I am sure i recall a priest getting locked up for it a few weeks ago

      Either way, you're a loser.
You don't seem very content to me, calling people "pricks" and "losers".

Um, where did I say he couldn't insult me? Perhaps read posts before you reply to them.

And I'm not a catholic so your stupid little digs about priests are rather pointless. Why would you think Religion == Roman Catholic?

So by your own logic, you are not a happy person since you just insulted me, and spend most of your time on CUK insulting others? It's incredible how you're able to tie yourself up in hypocrisy and contradiction within two consecutive posts.

A content life because of those beliefs, but I couldn't live a life having the niggling doubt that what i believed in was a lie.

bollox. Science explains the how. Religion explains the why.

The priest locked up recently was for offences carried out 50 years ago.

                Are you assguru's sockie?

Perhaps when computers finally become sentient we'll be able to put all this nonsense behind us. If human beings can create a consciousness, then clearly there was nothing that special about the human race in the first place.
Define 'Religious'? Is that just a belief that existence is only a day-to-day experience for those breathing at the time? Maybe it is, it's just I've no idea, and my interpretation of Occam's Razor is this whole massive construct we call the universe/existence must either exist for no reason, ie an accident, or not.

I'd like to think it's 50/50 so Occam says what's the most likely - so if I have to say it's no accident, does that mean it has to be a Deity or something I can worship - it might be supreme science?

I never met a horrible person who got nice when they got religion
I would say that I am a much nicer person since becoming a follower of the way of Jesus than when I was an atheist. I may well be wrong about the existence of God, but either way I am much more inclined to think of and to help others now.

But you haven't met me in either guise, so I suppose that argument doesn't really hold any water.

Unless you are worshipping the wrong god or the real one is testing how gullible people are and will burn those who are not atheists forever etc.
