It takes some time, patience and skill to use but I would recommend the original Steadicam at around £500

Yep, but it pales by comparison. It was too stage managed and controlled, every animal had its own warder to keep the hordes away. too many Yanks.

just driving away from the place, up through Montana was a relief, it didnt take long to see the really wild stuff. thats what I was after...no fences...no hordes

Even so, someone was killed by a bear near Yellowstone only a few months ago:

Evert, a field botanist, was mauled by a grizzly bear in the Kitty Creek Drainage area of the Shoshone National Forest, just east of Yellowstone National Park. The bear was trapped and tranquilized hours before, as part of a Grizzly Bear research team. Later, the bear was shot and killed from a helicopter by wildlife officials.[2]

Initially it was reported that Evert ignored posted warnings to avoid the area due to the likelihood of a bear encounter.[2] However, the sheriff's deputy who recovered the body and members of Evert's family stated that the warning signs were no longer present.

Bears certainly make hiking and camping more of a challenge. Did you arm yourself?

no. I checked for grizzlies. The locals know for sure if there are grizzlers in the area. If there were grizzlers in the area, we didnt hike. Brown bears, we did.

I will post some more pics, taken by mrs EO

A quick look at the stats for 2000s Black bear attacks on that page I cited indicates that the majority of those mauled or killed were female, infants or old men.

Thats right. the latest advice for Black bears is to attack them. try to nutsack them or smack them on the beak. They wont take on a full grown bloke, possibly because they cant afford an injury.
We never got anywhere close to that scenario

It wasnt just old EO that had the adventures. I sat and got blethered in SanDiego, Mrs EO went on a shopping trip to the Horton Plaza Gaslight district, to get essentials for the journey.
She saw this guy being chased by the Texas Rangers, he escaped by climbing down the facade.

We found ourselves in some backwaters. This place was like the wild west, it hasnt changed much since the goldrush in 1898
