 Norway rats (Rattus norvegicus) are originally native to northern China. Following a series of introductions, the species had found its way to Eastern Europe by the early eighteenth century. By the year 1800, it ocurred in every European country. Records show the first sighting of R. norvegicus in the New World occur in the 1770's as ship stowaways. Today, Norway rats (a.k.a. brown rats) can be found on every continent of the world except Antarctica. (Nowak and Paradiso, 1983; Silver, 1927)Comment

 Paradiso wint Duiveltje

 Paradiso heeft een Duiveltje gewonnen, de muziekprijs voor het beste poppodium van het afgelopen jaar. De door het Popinstituut georganiseerde verkiezing werd voor het vijfde achtereenvolgende jaar gehouden.
 
 Herman Brood-manager Koos van Dijk reikte de prijzen uit tijdens de Muzikantendag in de Melkweg. De andere winnaars waren Jack Poels, zanger van Rowwen Hèze, Kane-gitarist Dennis van Leeuwen, Manuel Hugas (beste bassist), Hans Eijkenaar (beste drummer), Daan Schinkel van zZz (beste toetsenist) en Kraak & Smaak (beste DJ/producer).
 
 De winnaars zijn gekozen door hun collega-muzikanten die de afgelopen maand op de site van het NPI hun stem konden uitbrengen. De prijs bestaat uit een door Peter te Bos (zanger Claw Boys Claw) ontworpen trofee. De naam is een verwijzing naar de legende rondom bluesgitarist Robert Johnson, die op de crossroads zijn ziel aan de duivel verkocht en zo de beste gitarist ter wereld werd.Comment
