Although Saturn's rings were first observed by Galileo in 1610, his telescope was not powerful enough to unambiguously resolve the ring system. It was Huygens who, around 1655, recognized that Saturn was "girdled by a thin, flat ring, nowhere touching it." Cassini observed the most prominent of the known divisions among the rings in 1675. Now, thanks to centuries of telescopic observation and especially to the photographs captured by the two Voyager spacecraft, we recognize seven distinctly different rings orbiting Saturn, each of them composed of innumerable ringlets. Here's a closer look at the "Lord of the Rings."

The Girdled Pipefish is recognised by its broad head, slender snout and leafy appendages on the dorsal ridges. It is variable in colour, usually a dark grey, or orange-brown with pale bars across the back. Occasionally pale specimens such as that in the upper image are seen.
It is endemic to (only found in) Australia, from the Northern Territory, Queensland and New South Wales. This species lives in sheltered coastal bays, often on patches of rubble, sand or in sparse algal growth in depths of 10-20m. It has also been caught in deeper water by trawlers.

Demand for quality dyeing agents
Publication: Asian Textile Business
Date: Thursday, May 1 2003
At present, China annually produces 260,000-280,000 tons of agents for dyeing. The problem is how to improve their quality. China shares 10% of world production, but the dyes are said to be inferior in quality and variety as a whole. By item, 58,000-62,000 tons are produced for pre-processing agents,
and 158,000-162,000 tons for dyeing and printing agents and 34,000-37,000 tons for post-processing agents. Pre-processing agents number about 300 items, dyeing and printing agents number about 600 items, and post-processing agents number 500 items. The number of agent makers is about 1,500. Most of them are medium- and small-size companies. They are unable to produce good quality products in rich variety. In addition, overseas makers dominate high-quality products. China's entry into WTO is likely to press local makers more than ever.
