I spent 29 weeks on the bench.

If my last gig had continued - as it was originally supposed to - I could realistically have earned over £n0,000 and potentially up to £nn,000 in that time.

It was ok, the chicken still had some skin on (yuck!) and there were one or two gristly bits, too much parmesan and oddly not enough lettuce even though that would be the cheapest component and one would expect to have a lot of it.

Harrumph!

The Missus & I went to the most expensive curry shop in town that night (Weds). The walls & windows are covered in awards.

We had chicken gristle in tasteless pink sauce and we paid £35 for the privilege.

Great news, Brownei! What's it like?

A garage for storing empty bottles and ageing cider. A well-lit downstairs room for card-making & painting soldiers. A dining room which will make a good beer-making room. A good sized kitchen with a HUGE gas range (equals happy Mrs BI). 1 single bed bedroom and 3 doubles. The single bed bedroom will be for storage, one double bedroom will be our bedroom, one for guests and the biggest goes from front-to-back of the house so will be the office.

The back garden is on a slope and is not overlooked. The front has a garden and drive for 3 cars and a view that goes for many, many miles. (I'll need to spend some time with a map to work out just how far.)

It is a in a cul-de-sac on a nice estate in a nice bit of town, 5 minutes walk from the station and about 15 minutes by push-bike to work.

Now we just have to wait for the landlord to clear out.

I'm suggesting that to my client - let's scrap the three years of development and start again (kerching!)

I once had a student allocated to me for 4 months on work experience.

At the end I assured her all her work would be embedded into ClientCorp's core systems. I escorted her to the door, went back to my desk and deleted her home directory.

This student was a high-flyer.

Lots of trade press coverage, getting financial support from charities, getting aid from government.

This was quite a coup that ClientCorp had even got her.

I had the odd phone call from her professors asking whether her contributions were making the significant enhancements to our clunky old legacy systems as they had predicted. I said "Of course! We have trouble keeping up with her!"
