The final part of the 'assemblage' stage is, of course, the Flat Hand Press.

It is this which divides the PC brigade from the old hands, so to speak, ha ha!

    Sorry, my little joke.

      Right - lunch is over.

Apart from the biggest, fattest doughnut that I've ever seen sitting on my desk waiting for afternoon tea.

      Later all

One needs to compress the sandwich to increase the mu - to ensure sufficient adhesion between the various layers to ensure the minimal crisp particulate lossage ...

        BUT

(for it is a big but)

... without crushing the crisps any more than absolutely necessary.

An excessively 'squished' sandwich - a glossary handout will be made available after the lecture - a squished sandwich will not have the correct 'mouth feel'. The bread will feel damp and listless. The crisps will be sharp little fragments. There will be no resistance to the bite and none of that most essential element the 'crunch'.

An insufficiently pressed sandwich will simply lose its filling from the sides.

The degree of ensquishification required will depend upon the freshness and thickness of the bread, the bendiness of the crisps, the purpose to which the sandwich will be pout and the bigness of your gob.

Note that in this specialised field, 'gob' is the correct terminology and the use of 'mouth' will show one up as a newbie. An occasional regional dialectic version you may hear is 'cake 'ole'.

You will see I have used the Flat Hand Press to achieve a consistent 45% height reduction and yet only have a crisp particulate lossage factor (PLF) of 2 over .4 which, given the circumstances, is pretty damn impressive.

<briefly stands back to accept polite applause>

One is now ready to approach the dunking stage.

Firstly, re-stir the soup to ensure a consistent consistency.

At this point you may wish to ensure it is at the correct temperature: "bloody hot".
