I'm slightly dubious about taking such things unprescribed. I had pethidine once when I was in hospital and it was great, all the pain went away and I melted into the bed

I had morphine once in hospital....

.....the pain dulled a bit but it still bl**dy hurt

I had to ask for more - didn't do much

Canteen was rubbish today. There was a choice between sausage and chips or cheese & onion pastie and chips. So I went out and got a sandwich.

You'd be wise to be dubious. The solution I was suggesting would also have seen you in a hospital bed!
