The exercise has been made all the more challenging by the loose paperwork having been blown all around the office.

The manuals vary between "slightly moist" and "wet".

Thankfully, it is only the curtains that are "soaking wet".

What's left of the curtains, anyway. They are no longer attached for 30% of their length. Nor re-attachable, by the look of the state of them.

But it is the window that causes me most worry.

After a lot of pulling, pushing, levering and generally hanging out of the window in my dressing gown, I can now pull it so it nearly closes.

What had originally seemed like a "private rear-facing window, visible only from an unadopted path" is in fact a "screamingly obvious computer-packed room that faces the busiest cut-through in the town".

Every bugger for miles around must be familiar with the computer screen glow from this room!

So this morning, there was I, essentially topless since dressing gowns don't work in the wind, hanging out of this window while half of the town goes to walk the dog / fetch the paper / buy some milk / laugh at the twonk with the Donald window.

It is the end with the mechanics (where a hinge would have done) that is causing the grief.

It doesn't help you can see the screw holes in the window frame and holes in the soft metal bars, where the window fitter was supposed to have put some of those pretty-nails-with-the-curly-bit-round-it.

So the window was never fitted properly in the first place.

Anyway, the window now nearly shuts.

Which is good because we're going out in half an hour and won't be back till late with the highest-tech office in the town exposed to every chav in the area.
