And they never get decent presents for anyone - they moan that they are expected to buy presents for us and our children (and my sister and her son, and my sister-in-law's family spawn) but since they don't have children, they end up buying more presents than they receive.

No, it's just that he's a selfish **** who never considers that his parents might actually want to see him on Christmas Day occasionally. Since he moved into his own house, I don't think he's been to my parents on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.
