I used to regularly do Gatwick <--> Glasgow using one of the little independents whose name I have forgotten but I don't think they exist now. £50 return it was and that included a 3 course meal! You had to shovel that down quick!

I used to enjoy those runs - the staff were very friendly.

I considered flying into London City, but it was a LOT more expensive than Manchester to Heathrow.

Plus at least with BMI I get frequent flyer miles.

I cashed in the miles a couple of years ago and got two first class flights to LA. We then flew economy to Hawaii, where I cashed in the Hilton points for two weeks hotels....

Unfortunately, BMI never took the points from the account, so I still have over 250000 miles there.

Not sure where the next load will be spent - it's enough to get a couple of first class tickets to Australia, which I quite fancy.

I caught the last flight out one New Year's Eve and expected it to be packed.

There were 6 passengers.

One trolley-dolly per punter.

They went round and said "Do you want the meal, or the drinks trolley?"

They then came and sat with us and told stories.

They gave us ALL the booze on board to take with us! Bags and pockets stuffed full!

That was a Happy Hogmanay!
