      Get it working, then write some tests that prove it works. If the tests fail, rewrite them until they don't

                  I hope that is a joke! I am sure it is. Nothing worse than desperation. Something like "why were the company's profits up last year - is there anything I can learn?" is maybe a big creepy but usually works for me.

                      Yep, it was a tongue in cheek comment. I tend not to ask many questions unless the client make lead-in comments that warrant the need to ask.
