Hideous screeching noise coming from engine. Something was seized & it didn't like it much.
Turned off engine when smoke started appearing.
Eventually, after much effort & an hour and a half, got the fecking thing to go. I think either the alternator belt was slipping or the cambelt tensioner was seized.
The latter would be a grade A pain in the arse coz there's very little room to potch about in a Fiat Seicento.
The alternator belt would be little better, since the alternator is buried out of sight behind the engine.
Ho hum.
But it passed the MOT with no problems, which is a plus.

That's good news, and a lot better than when mrs 5* took her car to the garage for a service or MOT - she smashed it into 2 cars on a roundabout and did £4K worth of damage
