    They don't know what the business process is, but they want to automate it.

    The business have decided not to use the same, standard tool for process management, that they have for free. They have brought in another product to do the job.

    But they want the same functionality and everything to look the same. Which can't be done because it's a different product in a different system.

        I was told there were "a few exceptions" to the normal processing.

        That turns out to be over 400 exceptions.

        And they change all the time.

          So, I asked "how are you going to manage the process of storing what is and isn't an exception?"

          Once the exceptions are stored somewhere in the database, I can check for them.
