Culminated in discovering that a) the sump on the Fiat is rusty. b) the sump is leaking c) the oil filter I bought from Halfords is wrong coz it's an inch too long to fit.

I too had a visit to halfords and bought a rear wiper. Then had to take it back as it was the wrong one as I only wanted the rubbers.
So exchanged them and replaced mine and Mrs 5* wiper blades.
