I've got the motor back and it was the glow plug relay - replaced for £80.
They did suggest that the plugs could do with being replaced.
I'll do that another dayComment

Once I'd found the fecking thing (cunningly concealed under a cover in the engine compartment), I took it out & fixed it.

It wasn't helped much by it being a 2 litre Tempra, which wasn't covered in the fix it book I had.
Similarly, the 2 litre Marea I had (very briefly) wasn't covered in the Marea fixit book either.Comment

Since I have to take my folks to see my sister & nephew in Cardiff on Xmas day, I'd better get something sorted, or we're stuck here.
