I'm now copying the 2nd hard drive to external backup drive.

There are 4.4 Gbs of that so it will take a while.

It doesn't help that the server's USB ports are only version 1 ports.

The external hard drives require v2 USB ports.

That means I have to plug them in to a different PC and back up the server over the network.

Talking of networks, this one must be the most complex I've had at home.

There are two active WiFi access points because the house is split by a thick wall.

This thick wall also does not allow telephone or network leads through.

So I needed a way to join the 2 parts of the house.

I have gone for a mains-based network solution.

                  And it works!

I've got a pair of gadgets, each of which plug into a mains socket. Each has a ethernet port.

One WiFi modem router is plugged in to one in one part of the house and the other WiFi router is plugged in to the other in the other part of the house.

From each router ethernet leads go out to form each part of the LAN.

                    It works a treat.

If you use a laptop in one side, one WiFi router provide connectivity; on the other side the other provides it.
