Some of the finishes can be loud as you say, and they bring out the contrast in the maple stripes.

Other ones can be quite restrained and subtle though, resulting in a more refined and understated finish.

they manage to look and sound like both gibson les paul and fender stratocaster at the same time. a lot of companies have tried to copy either (and failed) and plenty have tried to come up with something new (and failed)

I really like the whole quilted maple finish.

prs have done those with varying degrees of success. the mira for instance. hmm. no thanks. but their main design really does meld the strat and the les paul really well.

agreed. not only that i've been getting used to the bling. and seeing it in the flesh makes a world of difference too. the quality is stunning.

i'm just not quite sure that i could do it. they are so flash! but then i'm a dyed in the wood traditionalist. i prefer the look and sound of the hollow bodied jazz guitars.
