I read some stuff from someone who works in the industry, he said that the BBC no longer keeps stores of stuff like they used to and that when filming has been completed the sets and props are all destroyed. If the show is recommissioned then it would all be made again from scratch (I think most of us would recognise the same modern approach to managing budgets).

He went on to add that the old TARDIS (that is not used for filming the current series) gets shunted from out-of-the-way place to out-of-the-way place at Broadcasting House so that the management don't see it. This is because noone has the heart to sign the form that would consign it to scrap.
