    Morning BP

I'm good thanks - just a half day @ ClientCo today. How's things?
Where are we going? And what’s with this hand basket?

One of my university lecturers would often "go off on one" and reminisce about his PDP8. On my placement year I actually worked at a company that had purchased the very machine he had worked with, and after returning to university for my final year I was able to present him with the nameplate after we had dismantled the machine one lunchtime.

There are those who've used an ASR-33 hooked up to a PDP-8/e, and those who have never heard the tolling of CTRL-G...

(I love one particular sentence on that page: "The teletype was quite noisy during operation, loud enough to need to speak up to be clearly heard when talking while it was printing." We had two in the computer room at school )
Ah! The tolling of the ASR33 bell...

Used one connected to a Commodore PET as a printer via a £100 (in 1978 £) box to interface between the IEE488 PET port and the ASR33 current loop...

          Merry days...

And one used as a console on a G.A. 16-220 minicomputer.

The whole thing used to crash if you switched the ASR33 on after it had booted.

And an ASR33 connected to a Mod One computer in Luffbra University.

In those days I didn't know the difference between " and ' and though '' was the same as "

Mucho editing of paper tape resulted.

In my shed I have a reel of metalised mylar tape that gives you electric shocks as you unwind it.

It was ever so popular with the women on the testing machines...

Oh well, looks like the crosslinked file thing in my Win98 pron download box is more or less terminal...

Spent last evening running scandisk... most odd.

Comes up clean, then you run it again and it's crosslinked again.

That's in safe mode and in dos mode.

Did a surface check & the hd comes up as no bad sectors...

              Dunno what's going on really.

And the Kaspersky VXD error 0e in KLIF(01) is becoming a tad tedious.

Time for the scrappy for that pc.
