I'll get on it... interestingly enough, relational databases (or at least SQL implementations - can't be bothered to look into the mathematical theory underpinning relational theory and see where the blame lies) aren't very good at detecting sequential runs of one field where the sequence is predicated on the value of another field, neither of which is just an autonumbered sequence of integers

Maybe I should move to an OO database... mathematically sound relational theory is all well and good, but sometimes it doesn't reflect real-life issues. Hence the ongoing saga of people investing fortunes in object-relational mappings that aren't quite good enough, when the obvious solution is to not do that.
Thank you kind Sir. Both for the congratulations and taking an interest in the sequential posts conundrum.

Send me a file with the person who posted on each line and I will work it out! I reckon excel/vba - despite 65536 cell limit - I would put names in column A, compare with row+1 in columnB, compare with row+2 in columnC etcetc. up to 20 columns initially? then if all column comparisons true.....

                    Morning all

                    Grey, dismal, misty... typical November.

                    Not cold though.
