I fired off an email to agency saying I wanted the restriction of going direct to client removing from contract... I was expecting a battle, but they have agreed

That's very sad. My eldest has just turned 10.

I can't begin to imagine what your friend and his partner are going through right now. Do they have any other kids?
Where are we going? And what’s with this hand basket?

It's one of those things that you can't even bear to think about.

No, this was their only little one and even worse he split up with the mum about 3 years ago and he got custody of the little lad. He was quite simply, the centre of his universe..... I just can't imagine how he must be feeling.

It's not scary, you can't live your life in fear of what might happen. All you can do is enjoy everything and balls to the rest.

my eldest is 12 next month and we have started letting her out more, we are naturally worried, but you just have to do it. We couldn't keep her in for fear of something happening.

God that's awful - I hope he has a good family/friends group around him - he must feel like everything has been taken away from him.

Aye, I think having little-uns really sensitises you to such things - unless I was perhaps just particuarly insensitive before I became a dad.
