Apparantly, a conservative Australian MP wants to stop the girls getting their bangers out on the beach (for fear of offending our asian cousins):
I particularly liked the phrase:
Now I've heard it called many things, but never "ire"!
Now don't get me wrong, I don't [always] set out to purposely offend, but if you change countries/cultures, surely it is for you to adapt to society, rather than the other way around?
I once had a girlfriend who's father was working in Saudia Arabia. She, a nurse, travelled over to spend some time with her parents, and perchance had a packet of condoms in her handbag (an accepted, if not promoted practice in the Western World). As she was travelling from the airport in a taxi with a man (i.e. the taxi driver) who was neither her husband nor father she was arrested and cautioned for protituion (w.r.t. aforementioned condoms).
My point is, if we are expected to respect and adhere to the laws and cultures of other societes, then why on earth do they not expect to adhere to the laws and cultures of ours?
PC gone mad? I dunno, but it's definitely in a straight-jacket occupying a padded cell somewhere.
