I wanted to go to math faculty in local Uni because it was the only place where IT was taught, there was no special IT courses back then, they would have accepted me since I was known there - I actually won some Uni IT award while I was still in school - I was competing against students, in a way what I did was plagiarism (but my implementation) though, but that's another story.

But at the time USSR was crumbling and I joined Finance course - it was the most popular at the time, competition about 10 people per place.

It's no wonder you rate yourself for basic algorithmic skill then. It must be quite a leap for you to do stuff I was doing when I was 19

Now, now - nothing wrong with using your fingers, toes and moustache to count.

Especially if you use the individual whiskers...You could get to quite a high number then.
