Who is the most famous Pole?

<FONT FACE="Verdana,Arial" SIZE=2>Ah, the boredom of work is upon me and the only way to stave this off is to find out who the most famous Pole is/was by using a Poll. So funny I'm almost laughing. :b </FONT><FONT FACE="Verdana,Arial" SIZE=2>Results (total votes = 7):</FONT><table bgcolor=#FFFFFF border=0 cellpadding=3 cellspacing=0 width="75%">

Now then - when just saw the thread title I thought immediately of Lech Walesa because he's the most ostensibly Polish. But on seeing your list, I had to go for the Pope because he's the most famous (polishness incidental).
So I'm know stuck in a hermeneutic quandary on how to understand the question - does the question insist on fame qua Pole (which would be Lech), or is Pole a qualification to be understood separately from the candidate's fame.

Analogously, is Changing Rooms' Handy Andy a more famous carpenter than Jesus Christ?

        Help please,
        tl

Id go for North Pole. The South Pole has never really pulled its weight, despite various tales of heroism in trying to reach it.
