My understanding is that in order to receive an APN, one had to be sent a discovery/investigation letter specific to the scheme - ASIOM in this case). Is there any way of checking if this letter had been sent to me ? and for which period? Is there a way of confirming I am unaffected?
You are correct. The only way is to ask HMRC (Unfortunately, if they claim they did send one, it will be their word against yours)

      Hi

I'm also new to this forum and just received 2 APNs yesterday for 2 years under Assignment Solutions. Am I able to be PM'd too if there is further info to be read?

      regards

I think you need a certain minimum number of posts before the PM system opens (10?) or ask the admin team.

It would appear that the "APN prioritisation process" has rolled around to ASIOM.

It would have been interesting to have been on the HMRC working group that decided the priority of cases for APN. The process but not the detail was described in the recent "Ingenious" JR case.

          perhaps a FoI request?

            APN on the way

Hi, Also new to this forum

Got a letter today to say APN will be here within 1 to 6 weeks. That's the sort of timely response I'd expect.

When I got the settlement letter last July I called them and they didn't have a clue so I can't imagine what they will be basing the APN on. All details, including the loans were shown on my self assessment return.

Please can I be allowed to PM people so that I can request further info e.g. about Big Group

            Thanks

Welcome to the party :-( Unfortunately we'll have to the APNs. Unfortunately HMRC have guestimated the loan amounts in many cases . If you have old P11d's, old bank statements or the emails sent out from Assignment Solutions (ASIOM) then you can work out the loan amounts and verify the APN amount is correct.

I'll spoil the surprise and reveal that they'll probably use the laziest algorithm possible to calculate your amount "due", that is: taking a multiple of your declared PAYE component (generally x4 or x5). That's what most people got.
This will generally result in a gross overestimate of your actual income, so brace yourself for a shock.
When the time comes, you'll of course want to challenge the amount, so start gathering your own figures as soon as you can.

                    Alphabetical?

Or (yikes) maybe Hector thinks the ASIOM structure will be an easy win at tribunal?

                      I don't think that's the case.

IMO they went for Penfolds first, because Penfolds was already being investigated, they had raised discoveries, etc. They had figures to issue APNs from.
They then naturally went onto Asiom next, as it's the same SRN (except for Asiom, they probably guesstimate the figures)

I don't think it says anything about how easy or hard a win at tribunal will be.
